As the seasons change and summer gives way to crisp evenings and brilliant foliage, it’s time to update your home décor. Here are some tips that will have your guests wondering which is more striking: the beautiful seasonal changes of fall...or your home’s creative interior.

Burlap Tablecloth—Buy a roll of burlap from your local garden center, it’s traditionally used in the fall to wrap and protect plants.  Cut it longer than the length of your table and use it as a tablecloth.  Combine unexpected elements when setting the “burlap table,” such as fine china, sterling silver and crystal. Use rich, fall-colored napkins in burnt umber or rusty red. For the center of the table, add lots of candlesticks at different heights, and add even more height with berry-filled bittersweet twigs in clear vases.

Fall Table “Still Life”—Place a medium-large pumpkin (12” - 15” high) in the center of your table and surround it with smaller pumpkins, gourds, berry -branches and persimmons.  Leave it on your table even after dinner is over, it will stay fresh for up to two weeks.

Mini-Pumpkin Tealight Holders—Trace the circumference of a tealight on top of a mini-pumpkin and carve it out.  Rub some Vaseline on top of the pumpkin to keep it from drying out. Then, insert the tealight inside and use these unique displays in the center of your table or interspersed throughout your home with fall leaves and flowers.

Pumpkin Flower Pots—Hollow out a few pumpkins and fill them with potted flowers in fall’s richest colors (like mums or dahlias) from a garden center. It’s as easy as inserting your plants in the hollow pumpkin and filling around them with soil. Then display your floral “pumpkin patch” on your front steps for a fun, fall feeling!

Autumn Chandelier Wreath—Carve out the tops of 6 mini pumpkins and place tealight candles inside the pumpkins. Lay a simple grapevine wreath flat on a table, wire the mini pumpkins to the wreath and insert stems of fallen leaves and berries in between the pumpkins.  Keeping the wreath flat, attach 3 lengths of small chain to hang the “Chandelier,” and join the three chains at the top with an “S” hook.  Suspend it from a porch ceiling or over an indoor table to create a rustic, autumn ambience.
