There's no better place to get design and decorating ideas than a showcase home, and the Pasadena Showcase House of Design is the best of the best. In its 47th year, the event is one of the largest, most successful and oldest house and garden tours in the United States. Each spring it attracts more than 35,000 paying visitors anxious to see the work of California's finest high-end interior and exterior designers.

    This Year's House

The 2011 showcase home is a 7,200-square-foot English Period Revival estate located in La Canada Flintridge, California. Rich with history, the house was designed in 1927 by celebrated architect Paul R. Williams.

The estate is a classic illustration of English Period Revival at its best and boasts many of its original features and structures. Upon entering the expansive grounds, the home’s exterior comes into view with its striking red brick and hipped and gabled roof. Its two distinctive chimneys are topped with decorative chimney pots, as was popular in the old English style.

The interior is just as inspiring, with cork flooring and a unique ceiling made of plaster-of-Paris and burlap. The grand living room displays a prominent fireplace and dark, stained paneling. The beautiful glass casement windows throughout the home and the inlay crests add architectural significance. Upstairs, a pitched hallway leads to four bedrooms, four bathrooms and enchanting alcoves.
