What Style of Bedroom Furniture Fits You?
When choosing your bedroom furniture, think about what's in your closet. If you wear expressive clothing, then you may like an ornate bedroom suite with bold linens. A little more subdued? Then a classic look might be the way to go. Feeling comfortable in your bedroom is as easy as feeling comfortable in your own skin if you choose furniture that is a mirror image of your style.

Sleep Easy with the Right Bedroom Set
Learn how to find bedroom furniture that will make you never want to leave your room.
- by Tracy A. Mozingo
You knew you were in trouble as a child when your mom told you to go to your room. She directed you to "stay in there" until you had figured out why you were in trouble. If you follow the advice in this article, you'll be begging someone to send you to your room. The right bedroom set reflects your personality, helps you sleep better and makes you feel more at home in your bedroom than any other room in the house.
Finding Functional, Beautiful Furniture
If your bedroom furniture isn't accommodating and visually pleasing, you'll never feel completely at home when you're in that room. So when you shop for bedroom furniture, look for beauty and function. Fortunately, most furniture manufacturers design their pieces with this concept in mind. "When our designers craft a look for the bedroom, their goal is furniture that's appealing both in aesthetic design and additional functions beyond the obvious standard storage needs," explains Jena Hall, executive vice president of merchandising and product development for bedroom, dining and occasional, Aspenhome.
Look for the Details
"Unusual storage venues, jewelry-type hardware and softer lines are a few of the significant components that often drive the final decision of which bedroom set to purchase," says Hall.
Focus on Size and Space
You certainly don't want your bedroom to make you feel claustrophobic, so make sure the pieces you select will not overpower your room. A bedroom is a retreat, a place to renew your spirit and a place to review the events of your day. Finding furniture that soothes your senses and puts you at-ease will ensure a long-term return on your investment.
Look for Lasting Pieces
Adam Tilley, Stanley Furniture's vice president of product management, says, "We want our designs to have depth and character to reveal itself over years of use … be it through subtle details that you may not notice at first, complex finishes that are multi-dimensional or thoughtful function that's there when you need it."
Match Your Furniture with Your Style
Furniture companies are branching out from the traditional bedroom suites more and more because people want a more personal feel to the furniture. "We are trying to incorporate more eclectic pieces within each suite to allow the consumer to express herself more fully," Tilley continues. "Global looks, contemporary mixed with traditional, textures in materials, multiple finishes … these are all things that get us excited."
Consider Classic Pieces
For furniture that stands the test of time, choose classic pieces. "Enduring bedroom styles are ones that incorporate interesting woods and classic clean lines," says Hall. "These techniques are more appealing to the young as well as the young-at-heart consumers."
